During 2020, Principal, Mark Piddington is working as the Department of Education's Director Inner City Strategy. Lisa Keating is Relieving Principal, David Tracy is Co Principal and our Deputy Principals are Julie Kennedy (Years 11-12), Sue Cooksley (Year 10) and David Grime (Years 7-9).
Congratulations to the HSC class of 2019. Our students achieved some excellent results including 38 Band 6 and 126 Band 5. Our HSC results continue a tradition of academic excellence in distance education, including outstanding individual successes.
The Sydney Distance Education 2018-2020 School Plan has a strong focus on engaging our students in their learning and building a supportive learning community where students feel supported, safe and valued so that they can build personal resilience and achieve learning success.
A key area of our school plan implementation is a focus on ‘real time’ teaching where students interact with their teachers and other students in lessons, enabling them to ask questions, collaborate with other students and develop a stronger learning community. Web lessons using Adobe Connect and student attendance at the learning hubs in Woolloomooloo, Woy Woy, Ingleburn, Glenbrook, Tuggerah and Miranda have been key programs that continue to help drive the increasing ‘real time’ learning experience and increased connection between teachers and students.
- During 2019, 472 out of 575 (82%) of home students attended a learning hub.
- During 2019 there were 1,277 web lessons (total 4,422 student attendance) delivered by teachers compared to 942 during the same time period in 2018, a 35% improvement.
Over the past few years, fifteen SDEHS students have scored in the top 10 of all students in the state in HSC subjcts. We celebrate the success of all our students who we encourage and inspire to achieve their very best in all years of their schooling.
As we focus on quality individualised education for each of our students, we provide so many opportunities for flexible blended learning that is both creative and challenging.
