Premier's Reading Challenge

What is the Premier's Reading Challenge?

"The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an initiative of the NSW State Government. It aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student - to read, to read more and to read more widely."

- NSW Department of Education

When does the 2023 Challenge open?

The 2023 NSW Premier's Reading Challenge opens on 27 February and closes on 18 August.

How do I participate in the Premier's Reading Challenge?

READ! You need to read 20 books by the closing date. Fifteen must be from the PRC booklist and five are free choice. Visit the PRC Booklist to view lists by author, title or category.

You can include any fiction that you have been reading for your school subjects this year as well!

Any two books from an approved series can be read as part of official PRC reading. Up to five other books from the same series can be read as personal choice books.

Our library currently has over 300 books that are on the PRC booklist. Go to the Oliver home page and click Reading Lists to see what’s available for this year’s challenge.

Watch the video below to find out how to browse titles and record your reading.
