Due to the current COVID-19 situation, Sydney Distance Education High School wants to reassure all students, supervisors and parents/carers that we are being proactive in ensuring a safe learning environment. We are adhering to all departmental advice as well as taking local measures so that the school remains a productive place for all students.

From Week 4 Monday 25 October Year 7-12 students may be on site if necessary to work with teachers adhering to social distancing requirements.

With the exception of Granville Learning Hub the rest of the learning hubs will be open for all students. Refer to the home page to access the learning hub timetable. Refer to the Granville Learning Hub page for more information about when it will open. There will be additional HSC teachers onsite to support students in HSC exam preparation and study help.

The learning hub staff are looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming our students back. We understand that there may be some heightened anxiety about returning to the learning hubs and we will do everything we can to support students attending. If you would like to discuss any aspects of your child’s attendance at the learning hub, please contact Duncan Gerdes at Duncan.gerdes@det.nsw.edu.au or 9383 0235.

Please note that all staff onsite must be fully vaccinated. Masks must be worn in all indoor and outdoor settings for all staff and students unless exercising or eating. Strict personal hygiene protocols and physical distancing requirements will be in place. Non-essential visitors are not permitted on site. Parents/Supervisors should remain outside of school grounds (some exceptions may exist re vulnerable students or students with disability)  and adhere to mask-wearing requirements and sign in using the Service NSW QR Code when entering the school or learning hubs.

Exclusion from school site includes:

  • Unwell students and staff: Students and staff must stay away from school when experiencing even the mildest of COVID symptoms and seek testing. They should not return to face-to-face activities until they receive a negative result and are symptom free.
  • Unwell household members: Students and staff should not attend on site if someone in their household is unwell. If the student or staff member has no symptoms, they can return once the household member has tested negative unless otherwise directed by NSW Health.
  • Close contact household members: Students and staff should not attend the school if someone in their household has been identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 case. Under these circumstances, the individual would be considered a secondary close contact and must get tested and isolate until both they and the close contact test negative to COVID-19 and they are completely isolated from the person who is the close contact. If they are unable to completely isolate from the close contact household member in the residence, they must remain in isolation for the duration of their household member’s quarantine period and complete further testing as directed by NSW Health

The Extra-Curricular activities for Term 4 are SLG, Volunteering, Book Club, Choir, Art Club, Health Club, Stretch Class, and a Makeup Workshop on MS Teams or Zoom.  Please check the school calendar and school website for dates and times of these activities.
